HAPPY HEALTHY EATS // VEGAN

Isn’t it impossible to be vegan as animal products are in everything?

It is impossible to be perfect in this imperfect world of ours. In fact, The Vegan Society states that being vegan is:

‘A way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.’

For the vast majority, being vegan is not a quest for personal purity, but a way of life that avoids unnecessary suffering and promotes compassion rather than cruelty.

Ok, so as part of the New Year, New Me rampage I am on, I decided to give veganuary ago which is a little cheat on my behalf as I was vegan for five years in my twenties so I feel like I have a slight advantage. So I was vegan in the early 2000’s and I can’t believe how much variety there is now for vegans! At the time you just had tofu and vegetables! that is all I ate for five years!! This time it is much easier partly because you can buy vegan everywhere and partly because I have more money to spend on shopping now!

Reasons to go vegan

Animals

Animals are able to perceive and feel, and experience pain and happiness just as we do. Production of food and clothing causes them to suffer in innumerable ways.

Health

Research shows that health is the second biggest reason people go vegan. Cut out cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Environment

Going vegan is the easiest and most effective way to help our planet. Make a more positive impact than giving up your car, and halve your greenhouse gas emissions.

Nutrition

Getting the right nutrition is easy when you’re vegan. You just need to know where to find it. Here we tell you all you need to know about protein, vitamin B12 and everything in between!

My first two weeks were not perfect, there were a couple of brews with normal milk in but that is it. I really am amazed about how easy it is now! I have been able to eat out a few times without any problems whatsoever and on the odd day, I forgot my lunch for work I didn’t have a single problem finding something to eat at a supermarket.

I have not had a problem indulging my sweet tooth either as you can see, the milkshake on the left is a banana and Oreo milkshake, which just tasted like banana and was made with soya ice cream. The chocolate dessert on the right is a chocolate avocado mousse which was surprisingly delicious and chocolately.

The first couple of weeks are now done, as the weeks go on I am going to share recipes and great vegan places to eat. I can’t imagine going back to my old ways anytime soon.
