“In my life I’ve learned that true happiness comes from giving. Helping others along the way makes you evaluate who you are. I think that love is what we’re all searching for. I haven’t come across anyone who didn’t become a better person through love.”
We all know by now that happiness is something I am extremely passionate about. Happiness is one of those rare things that too many people chase when really we all have the ability to be happy right now. Happiness can not be affected by what job you have, how big your house is or what kind of car you drive. Happiness comes from the small things that happen daily in our lives. It comes from the things we tell ourselves every day. We all have the ability to be ridiculously happy regardless of what circumstances we are in.
Don’t be wasting time waiting, waiting for the weekend, new job, bigger house or better car your happiness lays inside what you think of yourself, meeting with friends, kissing your partner or tucking your kids into bed at night. Your happiness is those small happy moments you don’t even think about, but actually together build your whole life. Here are some small happy moments from the last couple of weeks that have been making my world special.
So the last few weeks I have been working away in a small Yorkshire town outside of Halifax. I have been staying there Monday to Friday and by Friday evening I am ready for home and some peace and quiet. I am spending the whole time talking and organising people that by Friday night I am ready for the city. So last Friday I enjoyed an evening walking around Manchester city centre on my own, I enjoyed the noise of the city without having to say a single word. I wrapped up super warm and got myself a large coffee and just walked around enjoying Halloween in the city.
Sometimes happiness isn’t about being surrounded by lots of people. You don’t always have to be doing something. Sometimes happiness is just spending time alone doing what you love. I was so exhausted that this actually felt like some over-indulgent self-care. The air had that cool breeze about it that isn’t cold but really fresh, the kind of air that makes you feel like there is a change in the air.
Let’s face it, Halloween is the best holiday. It’s got everything: scary movies, fancy dress and plenty of sweets and I mean plenty of sweets. I mean its the only holiday that you can literally take sweets from a stranger.
“The best part about being alone is that you really don’t have to answer to anybody. You do what you want.”
“I think it’s good for a person to spend time alone. It gives them an opportunity to discover who they are and to figure out why they are always alone.”
This is a little different to my usual happiness posts but I can’t tell you how happy I was walking around the city and soaking up the world. It actually seemed like a couple of hours of heaven, something I didn’t think I would say about a winters night in Manchester.
