FITNESS 30 – DAYS 13-16

Ok, so this challenge is so much much harder than I could have ever have imagined, who knew I hated exercise so much now?! If you are wondering “what challenge is she going on about” then you can catch up here.   

I am at the halfway point now and I’m pretty sure if this challenge was any longer than 30 days I would be throwing in the towel! I am a weird mix of loving the fact that I am pushing myself but then, on the other hand, I am utterly exhausted! Anyway, I am rambling now, so here are the next four days………..


Day 13 Early Night

After 13 days of fitness and a crazy work schedule my body was literally screaming for an early night, usually, I wake up early and go bed when I am tired which means about 6 hours of sleep a night for me. However, on day 13 my body was ready for some real sleep. So I had a lovely long hot shower, changed my bed sheets, put on some new PJs and headed to bed at 8pm. I fell asleep within seconds and woke at my normal time which meant my body got exactly what it needed. There is no point exercising like a loon and dieting if you don’t actually do what your body needs. Because sure you will look good on the outside but you won’t feel good on the inside nor will your body function correctly. So don’t feel bad about skipping a gym session in order for an early night because your next gym session will be much better and you will probably be able to go for longer and harder.


Day 14 Quick gym session

My life is going through some very big changes at the moment, changes I didn’t know would be happening when I started this challenge, which has made this a lot harder than I expected it to be. Lucky I didn’t start this challenge to lose a set amount of weight, I started it to show that no matter what you can fit some kind of fitness into your life on a daily basis. Although it has been a real struggle I am actually managing it, just! So day 14 I had so little time I didn’t think I would be able to do it, but actually, I managed to get in a cheeky little 30-minute gym session in. Granted it was slightly easier as I live a 2-minute walk away from the gym (so I really don’t have an excuse not to go). Knowing I had only 30 minutes I probably worked harder than I normally would, my tummy is a real problem area for me so I spent the time working that area. I switched between sit ups, push ups, plank, mountain climbers, donkey kicks and fire hydrates which meant I wasn’t bored. Not going to lie by the end of that my tummy was on fire and I 100% felt like I had an intense workout.


Day 15 30 minute run

If you are struggling with time or simply can’t afford a gym membership or even you hate the gym then running is for you. All you need is a pair of trainers and you have all the exercise you need outside your door. If you are going to talk up running then please spend a little more on your trainers, they really do make all the difference. The only trainers I can run in are Adidas; if I am doing weights in the gym then I tend to do them barefoot as I find my balance is better. I don’t always track my distance when it’s a short run; I roughly know that 30 minutes running for me is 3 miles. Not a great run and I am sure some of you are thinking is that really worth it? Well, the answer is yes, always yes! You are not always going to have time to go on long-distance runs or have a big gym session but what you do have time for is to add a little extra movement to your day!


Day 16 Cheat Meal

Although my diet still isn’t perfect it is about 100 times better than it has been, the last 6 months has been day after day of “treat yo self”. Now I’m making a real effort to get my five a day back in and cut out as many sugary snacks and drinks as possible. It is hard, after six months of eating crap it is now a habit and something I really need to break. I am trying my hardest to edge back to being vegan as that was a time in my life where I actually had the most energy and felt good on the inside. I am not a big meat eater but dairy is a real weakness for me and it doesn’t even make me feel good. This challenge has really made me listen to my body again and what my body is screaming out for is more greens. After 16 days I decided a cheat day was on the cards for me, well a cheat meal at least, I am not a fan at all of the cheat days because diet and exercise is not a punishment and looking after yourself shouldn’t be rewarded it should just be a way of life. I really wanted fish and chips so that’s what I had, I didn’t go crazy, I just enjoyed a meal that I wouldn’t normally have anymore and it actually just made me realise that I didn’t actually need it. Here’s hoping for a greener future.

I have found that the last four days have been a lot less about working out but more about looking after myself, which is what fitness is actually about. I have been listening to my body a lot more and it’s actually been nice to do so. Once you become committed to looking after yourself you will find that actually, your body knows exactly what to do, you just have to listen to it. Which becomes a lot easier when you are paying attention to it.
