“A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life.”
– Andrew Matthews
This may seem absolutely ridiculous, sleeping as a way of self caring because we all sleep to some degree but I’m talking about actual relaxing, no technology, no distractions sleep! For the last couple of months I have been working non-stop literally falling into bed at all hours for just a couple of hours at a time before dragging myself back out of bed in an exhausted state of bad moods and worse skin.
I have been neglecting self caring recently but no more! Self caring is one of the most important acts you and I can do for ourselves. For me it keeps me happy, focused and truly allows me to relax. So I have dedicated the last week to making myself sleeping beauty. I have gone to bed at the same time every evening and allowing myself to wake naturally each morning. And not only has my mood improved but so has my skin. By far the biggest change I’ve made is turning my phone off at bedtime. The old excuse of its my alarm clock is a terrible excuse, you can pick up a perfectly good alarm clock for less than £5 and it won’t tempt you into checking instagram at 2am.
I totally understand that life happens and it would be impossible for me to go bed at the same time every night but I know I can do it at least twice a week. For at least two mornings a week I will wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. So tonight why not treat yourself to a long hot bath and climb into bed with no distractions and fall into a deep sleep where unicorns and rainbows fill your dreams.
