“Accept yourself. Love yourself as you are. Your finest work, your best movements, your joy, peace, and healing comes when you love yourself. You give a great gift to the world when you do that. You give others permission to do the same: to love themselves. Revel in self-love. Roll in it. Bask in it as you would sunshine.” ~ Melodie Beattie.
Over the bank holiday weekend me, Jamie, my family and our friends had one massive staycation together to celebrate my brother and sisters birthday which are three days apart. The entire three day weekend was spent eating, giggling, catching up and more eating all together and I can’t tell you just how good it was for my soul.
I can’t remember the last time we were all together so as you can imagine we all hardly came up for breath as we all chatted at a hundred words a minute. So there was no time for phones, televisions or pretty much any technology. Spending time with people that love you is so important for self care and your mental health, it reminds you just how loved you truly are and helps you to put into prospective all the negative areas in your life. Recently I have been feeling really down about my job to the point that I don’t want to go in but after some quality time with my loved ones I’m feeling slightly better and know it doesn’t matter about the negative because my positives are just so wonderful.
You don’t need an army of people for this self care exercise, you could have a mini staycation with just one other person, your partner, best friend, brother or sister. Go to your favourite restaurants, hit the cinema, have a game of ten pin bowling, walk in the park and visit your local museums or art galleries. Just enjoy the company of your loved ones and let them shower you in love. Because really these are the people that know you the best and will listen to you, make you giggle and not judge you for ordering two desserts.
I will definitely be indulging in more staycations with my family because it really was the most perfect weekend.
