August’s happy little things

“Life is made up of small pleasures. Happiness is made up of those tiny successes. The big ones come too infrequently. And if you don’t collect all these tiny successes, the big ones don’t really mean anything.” — Norman Lear

I’m so a firm believer in finding happiness in everyday life, in a world were we are always waiting for the weekend, summer, holidays or some miracle that will apparently make all our problems disappear. We should stop and look for smaller joys, those little moments in the everyday life that make us stop, smile or even giggle. Here is a little happiness from each day through the first half of August.

Jamie surprised me with Fearne Cottons cook happy, cook healthy food, the book has been sat in my Amazon basket since its release but I kept forgetting to order it and Jamie came home with it for me. Jamie always buys me the most thoughtful of gifts which I always love, he knows me far too well.

Buying used books is my absolute guilty pleasure, I have so many books now that I could not possibly read them all in my lifetime but whenever I buy a used book I feel like I am saving it. At least once a month I spend an afternoon slowly wandering around charity and used book stores looking for the next in my collection. This month I starting collecting Agatha Christie books which are so cute.

Jamie and Dave fast asleep on the sofa, I mean how cute do they look I must have watched them sleep for about an hour.

If you read my weekly fitness posts than you will know I have been suffering a lot with my teeth and have been eating a lot of crap for comfort. I finally got back to eating healthy which made me extremely happy because when I eat rubbish I feel rubbish, so when I finally had the problems sorted I was able to eat some yummy healthy food.

I received a thank you box in the post which absolutely made my day after a long hard day at work. The box was beautiful filled with some beautiful products, I received it as a thank you for helping a friend out. The box was ordered through letterbox boxes which is a beautiful online company that specializes in wonderful boxes for special occasions.

Peter rabbit at snugburys ice cream farm could possibly be the cutest thing I have ever seen. I’m really lucky to live nearby and over the years have seen some pretty impressive hay structures there but this is definitely my favourite ever. Just seeing the blue coat makes my heart melt and instantly puts a smile on my face, not to mention their ice cream is to die for.

Meeting my friends puppy Daisy absolutely made me smile from the inside out, she is the second my beautiful dog ever ( after Dave, naturally ). Daisy is a Springer spaniel and is now 18 weeks old and so plauful, I can’t imagine ever being sad with her in my life.

Porridge has overtaken eggs as my favourite breakfast meals, there is something so comforting about it and it reminds me of the colder months which I’m already so excited about.

Morning runs with Dave are the best way to start the day for both of us. I choose a job around Jamie’s to make sure Dave is never alone for more than four hours but during those four hours he’s all I think about, I hate leaving him ( he has sad eyes down to a tee ). I love taking him out for a long run before I head out to work because I know he will be happy and sleepy while I’m gone.

My little box, August edition arrived and every month I love receiving my box and trying out all the goodies inside. With my zero knowledge of beauty products trying to use some of the products is more than comical but I am enjoying learning about all these creams and lotions.

I was lucky enough to win a instagram competition which with my terrible luck was a lovely happy surprise and definitely put a big smile on my face.

A cheeky nandos with my brother, I had the most yummy vegetarian meal of mushrooms, cheese and pineapple in a pitta with lots of veggies and the service was absolutely incredible ( so much so that I actually emailed nandos while I was still there to say how wonderful it was ). I love spending time with my brother as he is the funniest person I know, our sense of humour is exactly the same and we always have lots to chat about.

What made you happy in August?

I’m a firm believer in not wishing your life away waiting for the next weekend or the next holiday, finding so much joy in every day life is the best way to be.
Dave and Jamie sleeping so SO cute, my husband and Betty can almost always be found having a little snooze somewhere in the house, she cuddles in like she’s pretending she’s me…. hmmmm!

I’ve spent most of August getting sandy and splashing about in the sea and that’s really all I can ask for. I feel so lucky to live so close to the sea.
Have a brilliant rest of the week.

    M X
