“A healthy self-love means we have no compulsion to justify to ourselves or others why we take vacations, why we sleep late, why we buy new shoes, why we spoil ourselves from time to time. We feel comfortable doing things which add quality and beauty to life.”
– Andrew Matthews
Self care doesn’t always mean lone care, for me self care isn’t about locking yourself away in a room to meditate, it’s about taking time out of the normal everyday routine of life to do something that I wouldn’t normally make time to do.
So when Jamie told me he knew somewhere that was beautiful, quiet and most importantly there was absolutely no phone signal, I jumped at the chance to see this magical land and spend some quality time together with no distractions.
The key piece of information he left out were the fish!!! Now as every fishing widow knows there is never a single day that goes by that fish aren’t involved in your life. We pulled up to the lake at about 5pm and Jamie looked so incredibly happy, he had the biggest grin on his face ever, think of a kid left alone in a sweet shop and he was happier than that, which instantly put a smile on my face.
While he set up his fishing stuff I went for a walk around the lake and took in some of the beautiful scenery and the fresh crisp air.
I even made a new friend along the way, isn’t she beautiful.
Eventually I wandered back round to Jamie who was sat so peaceful on the bank starring out into the lake. We spent the evening just smiling, cuddling and laughing out loud without a soul around.
We didn’t talk about work, the house, bills or anything which involved being a responsible adult, imagine all that excitement you have with someone at the start of the relationship before all the boring adult stuff kicks in.
As the sun started to set we packed everything up and took a long drive up still laughing and singing along to the radio. We even stopped at MacDonalds for a cheeky milkshake like teenagers.
This is my absolute favourite picture of Jamie he looks so happy, we had such a lovely time together without any distractions. It really was like being kids again, an absolute perfect way to spend a perfect evening with someone you love.
