That most wonderful time of year is just around the corner, the British summer, if you have friends as well organised as I do then you probably already have a host of beautiful invitations waiting for your RSVP however if you are anything like me then you are just about making it through this week let alone trying to think ahead to what you will be doing in 12 weeks, unless you are superhuman than I salute you, and please let me know your secret.
Needless to say I have a LARGE number of invites stuck to the front of my fridge between bills and those pictures of us looking blissfully happy. It seems that once you turn 30 invitations have replaced the ” I’m getting dressed in the back of the taxi, see you in 5 mins” text. I have invitations to kids birthday parties, baby showers, christening, we moved, I got divorced, we are engaged, we are getting married, it’s the queens birthday, it’s my birthday, we just bought a puppy and the classic garden party. All of which you need a new outfit for because the aunt you usually only just see at Christmas is making a mental list of everything you are wearing for that all important Christmas dinner table talk of ” I saw her over the summer and she wore that same dress on at least two occasions, maybe she is struggling at work, home, money in general” chit chat. That then leads to lots of concerned phone calls ( ok maybe only my family is nuts). But you are get the picture those wild, carefree summer months of sand between your toes and hours of making daisy chains is actually a perfectly timed full on operation which takes months of planning.
If all this wasn’t pressure enough I have gone from 16 to size 10 in the last four months and literally have nothing to wear, I have been putting off buying clothes til I got to my goal weight which I’m so close to now, only a few more workouts away in fact so now I’m ready to get my shop on! I have spent the last few weeks day dreaming about clothes online wondering which parties I would wear them to, to show off my new confidence ( plus giving auntie Linda something to gossip about ). I thought I would share with you a little best of British summer style board and hopefully give you some inspiration and with any luck you won’t be panic buying two hours before the event and getting dressed in the back of a taxi. And if you do it’s ok because Debenhams has absolutely everything you need in one beautifully lit shop ( and the cutest cakes ).
The posh day time party.
The evening charity ball.
The picnic date.
The cocktails on a roof terrace.
My shopping basket is so full now and I’m excited about the summer I have no need to hide under lots of shapeless layers, this will definitely be my most stylish summer yet.
What’s your favourite piece? And do you have lots of invitations for a summer of cocktails and quality time with the people you love most?
